Discrimination a person can experience in the workplace
Workplace discrimination occurs when an individual is adversely discriminated against due to any number of factors.
Below are 5 types of discrimination a person can experience in the workplace:
I think Mary is totally qualified to get the job, she is the most experienced one in our group. It was unfair to neglect her application because of her pregnancy. It is true that Mary might ask for a maternity leave in a few months later or she might put some time in her children. But I believe she can manage it well. Everyone should have their personal life rather than a working machine. Additionally, Marry has already worked on our company for 10 years!!! Simply reject her application without given a proper explanation make me feel so sad.
I felt sorry for Mary, but at that time I did not aware that this was a kind of discrimination. Now, I do know some federal laws cover pregnancy discrimination. Our rights are protected by the government. Therefore, when facing some unfair activity, we can discuss with the manager first. If problem not solved I would probably choose to report it, and seek help. https://www.humanrights.gov.au/publications/pregnancy-fact-sheet
Mary is my colleague who is six months pregnant. After ten years working at an IT company, she applies for a senior position that has just opened up. Despite having more experience and qualifications than the other applicants, she was passed over. When she asked the manager, he said: “I need someone who will be more dedicated to the position.
