Manage stress level at work

Life is hard, work even harder. Everyone has different degree of workplace stress. Some stress will push you to be more efficient, however, if you don't manage it well, some will probably make you breathless.

The sign of work stress

There are two types of sign: physical & non-physical sign. If you occur the situation below, you need to try to manage you work stress.
Physical signs of stress:
  • chest pain or a pounding heart
  • fatigue
  • nausea, diarrhoea or constipation
  • getting colds more often
  • sleeping problems
Non-physical signs of stress:
  • feeling overwhelmed or frustrated
  • feeling guilty or unhappy
  • being irritable
  • excessive worrying.

How to deal with stress

When I have too much stress, I will try in two ways.

First, take time to recharge. Having a good break will help you improve the work efficiency. It is important to balance life and work. Personally, I will go to the gym or listen to music or watch a Movie or whatever you like. These activities will relief you from the work. And when you go back to work, you will have a fresh brain.

Second, get some support. Some tasks are really hard, it is very difficult for one person to complete. If you do face some problem, please do not forget that you still have colleagues. You can ask for help. There was a time when I need to solve a complex coding problem, I already put two days in it, but no progress and the due day is 2 days later.  So I decide to ask seniors for help. They gave me a hint, then the problem became very clear. I figured it out soon. So if you do have difficulties, ask for help. No one will laugh at you.

In conclusion, work stress is not always a bad thing. It may also be beneficial in short bursts, helping you stay alert and perform at your best. However, prolonged or excessive job stress can be damaging to your mental health. Therefore, we know when our stress is over our tolerance range and how to manage it.
